Spring 2012 Online Jam 3: Reflective Practices

Dear C2L Friends,
Welcome to our final Jam of the spring semester, kicking off today, at noon. We're pleased to focus this Jam on peer reviewing and revising our polished reflective practices. In the first week we'll give each other thoughtful and detailed feedback. In the second week we'll work in our campus teams, using that feedback to guide final revisions and edits on our own practices.
We've shifted our time structure slightly. Our initial timeline was a 10-day Jam (4/16-4/26) followed by 4 days to do a reflection. We want to structure that time differently here, to provide time during the Jam to actually do any revisions, based on the feedback. In that sense we're using this Jam to really "workshop" the practices. So our revised timeline is Phase 1--Peer Review (4/16-23) and Phase 2--Revising & Editing (4/23-30). We'll eliminate the post-Jam Reflection.
Our goal is to make our initial set of polished practices as rich, clear, and fully-developed as possible, preparing them to become part of our first iteration of the C2L collection. Here's the process:
Phase 1--Peer Review (4/16-23): The first part of the Jam will take place in the Forum, working in small peer review groups, each of which has it's own workshop or "studio." When you go to your studio, please follow the steps detailed there (and in the attached), which will ask you to:
- Briefly introduce your activity to your group;
- Carefully review the practices posted by other members of your group, and share detailed and constructive feedback;
- Read & respond to comments.
Phase 2--Revising & Editing (4/23-30): After the peer review process is complete, each team will draw upon the feedback -- and the insights gained through reviewing and discussing others' practices -- to finalize their campus practice, posting the final version in their C2L Portfolio.
For your convenience, I've attached copies of the Note Taking Tool and the instructions for the Small Group work.
As always, the value of this discussion will depend on the thought and energy you put into it. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, insights, and good energy!

Jam Reflective Post to Campus Portfolio
Please complete by Thursday, February 9
This Jam has been an intensive learning experience. The format was different from other Jams, since our exchange took place only the Forum and not on the Campus Portfolios. Now, for this final phase of the jam, we’d like you to post on your portfolios a substantial reflection – summarizing what you learned through this Jam, and highlighting some potential implications of your learning for your campus projects. You can work as an individual and/or as a team, and post one or more reflections. Please follow the prompts below to guide your reflective thinking. When you’re done, please post your reflections under a sub-page in Engagement and Integrative Learning (and don’t forget to make a link to it from the Activity Overview Table of Contents).
Here are our suggested prompts:
- Think back on the Jam as a whole – from the readings and Randy’s presentation to the two phases of Forum discussions: What are the 2-3 most important things you learned about social pedagogy from this intensive and collaborative study? What do you want to remember?
o How might you apply what you’ve learned to your campus plans for next semester and beyond? How could you deepen or broaden social pedagogy practice in your campus ePortfolio project? What could you try that’s new? What steps – faculty development or other -- might you take to advance your campus use of social pedagogy practices and weave them more into your project as a whole?
o What new questions did this exchange raise for you? What did it make you want to learn more about?
If you have questions about the technical aspect of this reflection (or any other technical issue), please contact Jiyeon at JiLee@lagcc.cuny.edu.
Please do your post-jam reflection by February 9, while the experience is fresh. Thanks!
